Use self-test and status pages to confirm the printer works before changing Plato.

Common Thermal Printer Self-Test

Many receipt printers use this flow:
  1. Load paper.
  2. Close the printer cover.
  3. Turn the printer off.
  4. Hold Feed.
  5. Turn the printer on while holding Feed.
  6. Release Feed when printing starts.
  7. If the printer pauses after the first status print, press Feed briefly to continue.
The printout often includes model, firmware, interface type, IP address, port, MAC address, and paper width.

Epson Feed Button Menu

Many Epson TM models use a printed menu after self-test:
  1. Run the self-test.
  2. Hold Feed for at least one second when the menu asks for mode selection.
  3. Press Feed briefly the number of times shown for the target mode.
  4. Hold Feed for at least one second to select that mode.
  5. Follow the printed instructions.
The printed menu is the source of truth. If the printed menu differs from this documentation, follow the printer menu.

Epson Status Sheet Button

Many Epson network models, especially TM-m30 family printers, have a status sheet button near the interface ports. To print network settings:
  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Confirm paper is loaded and the cover is closed.
  3. Remove the bottom or connector cover if needed.
  4. Hold the status sheet button for at least three seconds.
  5. Read the printed IP address, MAC address, and network status.
Some Epson interface cards use the same button to reset network settings when the printer is powered on while the button is held. Use the model page before doing this.

Reset Rules

Reset only when:
  1. The printer IP address is unknown.
  2. The printer is locked to the wrong network.
  3. The printer web config password is unknown.
  4. Support asks for a reset.
Avoid reset when only Plato routing is wrong. In that case, fix the printer device, connected POS, categories, or order types in Plato.

After Any Reset

  1. Restart the printer.
  2. Print a new self-test or network status page.
  3. Configure Ethernet or Wi-Fi again from PC if needed.
  4. Reserve the new IP address on the router.
  5. Update the IP address in Plato.
  6. Test receipt and kitchen ticket printing.
