# Ethernet Printers

> Configure Ethernet or LAN receipt printers for Plato.

Ethernet is the recommended connection for fixed restaurant printers because it is more stable than Wi-Fi during service.

Use Ethernet for:

1. Main cashier receipt printers.
2. Kitchen printers.
3. Bar printers.
4. Prep station printers.
5. Printers that must keep working during rush periods.

## Supported Starter Models

Ethernet setup is supported for these starter printer families when the model has a LAN port and supports ESC/POS or raw TCP printing:

## Network Requirements

1. The printer must be connected to the router or switch with an Ethernet cable.
2. The POS device must be on the same local network.
3. The printer must have a reachable IP address.
4. The printer port must be known. Many receipt printers use `9100`.
5. The printer IP should be reserved on the router when possible.

## Plato Setup

In Plato, create a printer and set `Connection Config` to `Network`.

Enter the printer IP address and port, then connect the printer to the POS device from `Connected Devices`.

## Quick Ethernet Checks

If the printer does not print:

1. Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to the printer.
2. Check that the cable is connected to the router or switch.
3. Check the LAN lights on the printer, router, or switch.
4. Try a different Ethernet cable.
5. Confirm the IP address in Plato matches the printer self-test page.
