# Set KDS Timers And Alerts

> Configure preparation timers, colors, and sound alerts.

Timers help the kitchen see whether items are on time.

## Default Timer Idea

A good starting setup is:

* Start preparation.
* Approaching deadline.
* Past deadline.

Each timer can have its own color.

## Preparation Percentage

Timers can be relative to the product preparation time.

For example, one timer can warn when an item is approaching the expected preparation time.

## Sound Alerts

Enable sound alerts only where they help.

Too many alerts can become noise during busy service.
