# Run The Kitchen Display

> Understand what cooks see on KDS and when to use each kitchen screen.

KDS is the kitchen display screen.

It replaces or supports printed kitchen tickets by showing orders and items directly on a kitchen station.

## What The Kitchen Sees

KDS shows kitchen tickets with:

* Order number.
* Order type.
* Timer.
* Items.
* Modifiers.
* Notes.
* Seats, when used.
* Ready and completed state.
* Voided items when the kitchen needs to review them.

## Where KDS Fits

POS sends the order. KDS receives the kitchen items. Kitchen staff tap tickets or items as they move through preparation.

Use a separate KDS for each station when the kitchen needs focused screens, such as hot kitchen, drinks, desserts, or packing.
